Mission Statement/History
Our mission is for NSG to be the preferred contractor
and a recognized leader in the coatings industry.
Our goal is to provide an atmosphere that allows
employees to personally grow and contribute to the overall success
of the team and maximize individual levels of achievement.
Our mission statement is built on the philosophy
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Early A. Nelson, Sr., founders of the company.
The legacy of the founders continues to live on at Nelson Service
Group, Inc.
Nelson Service Group, Inc. originally started in
the basement of Earl & Ramona Nelsons’ home located in
the North Florence neighborhood in 1960. E. A. Nelson Co., Inc.
was formally incorporated in March of 1964.
| Early
A. Nelson Sr. (Earl)
(9/20/1929 - 2/15/1997) was born & raised on a family
farm in Detroit, Alabama located south of Hamilton. He was
the son of Lucian Melton Nelson and Carrie Mae Collier Nelson.
Earl was the youngest of 7 children. He graduated from Hamilton
High School where he was an outstanding high school athlete
excelling both in football and his game of choice, basketball. |

Ramona Brown Nelson
(7/20/1930 - 10/1/1985)
was born & raised in Douglas, Alabama (Sand Mountain located
between Albertville & Boaz, Al.). Ramona was the oldest
of four children. Her parents were Will Brown and Birdie Dooley-Brown,
& the granddaughter of Jim Dooley & Pearl Gregory-Dooley,
who ran a general store in the Douglas community. Ramona graduated
salutatorian from Douglas High School. |

Earl & Ramona met while attending Florence
State Teachers College and were married in 1949. While attending
college Earl worked in the maintenance department as a painter.
After leaving Florence State he held several positions as a painter
working with TVA, Rust Constructors & Daniel Construction Company.
After traveling construction for several years, Earl & Ramona
decided to make Florence their permanent home.
They were not only husband & wife; they were
business partners working out of the basement of their North Florence
home. Their newly formed company flourished as the result of Earls'
uncanny ability to line up jobs, as well as his ability to plan
& coordinate their execution. Ramona was tenacious in her ability
to keep Earl from spending money that was earned, holding tight
to the purse strings. Not only did she have the ability to save,
but the perceptiveness to recognize opportunities and willingness
to give Earl the support & encouragement needed to operate their
business. The company grew in size and was not only a place to work
but developed into an extended family that still exists, being passed-on
thru the descendants of the people who worked with Earl and Ramona
thru out the years.
In May of 1973 it was determined that it was time
to split the business into two separate entities. E. A. Nelson Co.,
Inc. would endeavor to supply a newly formed contracting firm (American
Abrasive Air & Service, Inc.) with equipment rental, sales &
service as well as fulfilling the requirements of other construction
related entities. AAA was subsequently changed to Nelson Service
Group, Inc. in April of 1995 where it is still operated by a second
generation family member, Early A. Nelson Jr. (Alex).
